Malik Basri
Origin: Indonesia 

Coach Malik is a certified badminton coach, consultant, and former professional athlete with over 20 years of international experience in player development and high-performance coaching. A former member of the Singapore National Team, he represented his country at the Commonwealth Games, Thomas Cup, Asian Games, and SEA Games, winning multiple national and international medals.

As a coach, Malik has developed athletes at every level—from grassroots to international champions. In Singapore, he guided both junior and para-athletes to historic achievements, including Singapore’s first Paralympic gold and silver medals in badminton. After moving to the United States, he co-founded Capital Badminton Academy in Maryland, producing U.S. junior national champions and serving as the USA Junior National Team coach at the Pan Am Championships.

In addition to coaching, Malik is a Badminton IT Development Consultant with BYPRO, where he supports clubs and academies across Canada, Europe, and Asia. His work leverages data-driven training platforms and management systems to improve athlete performance, increase revenue for organizations, and ensure long-term growth. Trusted by the Indonesia Badminton Association’s Sports Science team for the 2024 Olympic Games, he is recognized as a global leader in badminton education, technology, and athlete development.

Coaching Career

Capital Badminton Academy (2016 – 2021, 2025-now)  (Maryland)

Co-Founder and Head Coach

  •  Established a pioneering training program at Maryland's dedicated badminton facility.

  • Produced three junior players who became national champions in the U17 and U19 categories from 2016 to 2019.

  • Produced fifteen junior players who became local and regional champions from 2016 to 2021.

  • Selected as the USA Junior Coach for the Pan Am Championship in 2016 and 2018.

  • Led the annual North East central training program in year 2017 and 2018.

  • Trained and managed three top international coaches for the badminton development program.

  • Oversaw coaches and training schedules on a bimonthly basis.

  • Support the East Coast Badminton Club and the Northern Virginia Badminton Club.

  • Produced U13 and U15 junior national champions in 2014 and 2015.

  • Implement a new badminton training program for local DMV athletes.

 

 Singapore Disable Sports Association (Singapore)

Head Coach

  • Achieved the first Gold and Silver Medals for Singapore's Badminton National Athletes at the 2010 Badminton World Championship in Bangalore, India.

  • Earned the first Gold Medal for a Singapore Badminton National Athlete at the 2009 Paralympic Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

  • Led the badminton development training program for Paralympic athletes across seven schools for disabled students in Singapore.

  • Assist the Men's Singles Head Coach, including Taufik Hidayat and Singapore's top local champions.

  • Lead the Singapore Junior training program.

  • Secured a Silver Medal in Men's Doubles at the 2006 Singapore National Open.

  • Achieved a Silver Medal in Men's Singles at the 1999 Singapore National Junior Championship.

  • Won a Gold Medal in Men's Doubles at the 1999 Singapore National Junior Championship.

  • Finished with a Silver Medal in Men's Singles at the 1998 Singapore National Junior Championship.
